Turning point for ex-inmates
6000 participate in Yellow Ribbon Prison Run
Back to prison – for a run
6,000 take part in Yellow Ribbon Prison Run
SINGAPORE: Some 6,000 runners lined up for the rare opportunity to race through the Changi Prison Complex on Sunday.
Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean also took part in the "Yellow Ribbon Prison Run 2009 — Beyond the Run".
The race was a chance for participants to show their support for the reintegration of ex—offenders and to help them unlock the second prison — the stigma associated with being a former inmate.
The route passed historical sites such as the Old Changi Prison Wall, Johore Battery and Changi Chapel Museum.
At least $50,000 raised from the event will go to the Yellow Ribbon Fund.
